Responsibilities

  • Led operational readiness for the Residue Hydrocracking operations, with a focus on the LC Fining unit, actively involved in reviewing all EPC deliverables since project inception in February 2018 to ensure alignment with operational requirements and readiness.
  • Coordinated the commissioning and start-up readiness of Cooling Water System, ensuring timely availability and reliability for process units’ integration.
  • Oversaw the commissioning of the BGS (Bapco Gas Station) in May 2024, working in close collaboration with Bapco Upstream to ensure system functionality and seamless interface.
  • Managed the commissioning of the Refinery South Flare (RSF) and 2BAGRU (Bulk Acid Gas Unit), ensuring safe operational by the scheduled milestone of June 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Provided strategic leadership as Operations Lead during the BMP detailed engineering at the Rome Operating Centre (ROC), ensuring constructability and operability are embedded is design decisions, equipment specifications and layout reviews across all key BMP process units.
  • Starting from March 2018, oversaw the review and approval of specifications – particularly for the LC Fining unit (Residue Hydrocracking Unit-1RHCU), Hydrotreater Unit (3HDU), Hydrogen Recovery Unit (1HRU), Spent Caustic Treating Unit (SCTU), new flare system (Refinery South Flare, and revamps scope in existing Refinery to ensure alignment with operational standards and long-term maintainability.
  • Directed the validation and implementation of detailed operating procedures (DOPs), promoting consistency, safety, and efficiency across BMP units.
  • Delivered timely, technically sound resolutions to unit-specific Technical Queries, Contractor and Stakeholder correspondence, enhancing decision-making and issue closure.
  • Represented Operations leadership in high-level safety and design reviews, including P&IDs, PFD, process manual, basis of design, HAZOPs sessions, 3D Model reviews, and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
  • Championed the implantation of lessons learned from past operational experiences, incident investigation, and global benchmarking – integrated design improvements, procedural safeguards, and operational feedback to enhance reliability and prevent recurrence across BMP units.

Previous Work Experience

  • August 1998: Joined Bahrain Petroleum Company as strategic trainee in Oil Processing Department (OPD).
  • 2004-2007: Involved in grass root project for Low Sulphur Diesel Complex (LSDP) during engineering phase, construction, pre-commissioning and commissioning of the following new units; Hydrocracker, H2 Plant, Sulphur Recovery/Treating units; and revamp of existing Hydrotreater unit.
  • 2007: Promoted to Operation Specialist at Low Sulphur Fuel Oil Complex (LSFO), with a foundational rule applying chemical engineering principles across plant operations, troubleshooting, and process optimization.
  • 2008-2009: Involved in new Refinery Gas Desulphurization Project (RGDP) during construction, commissioning, and startup covering new process units: Sulphur Recovery/Tail Gas Treating, Sour Water and Gas Treating, revamp, and tie-in to existing facilities in LSFO Complex.
  • 2009-2011: Acted as OPD's focal point for the detailed engineering and commissioning of the Lube Base Oil Plant (LBOP), ensuring alignment with operational readiness and safety requirements.
